Former chairman of Satyam Computer Services Ltd, B. Ramalinga Raju appeared on Tuesday before a special court trying the multi-crore fraud case almost after a year.
Raju, who was accompanied by his doctor, has not been produced before the court by the prison authorities since September 11 last year as he was undergoing treatment in the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), initially for a heart ailment and later for Hepatitis C.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court granted him conditional bail last week when it directed Raju to attend the trial on all dates without fail. Accordingly, Raju presented himself before the XXIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate B.V.L.N. Chakravarti along with nine other accused, including former Satyam MD and his brother B. Rama Raju and ex-CFO Vadlamani Srinivas.
Immediately after the court assembled, his presence was marked and after taking his health condition into consideration, he was permitted to go back to hospital.
The case was adjourned to August 26. His counsel, Bharat Kumar, later told reporters that Raju appeared in the court following the High Court's directive and not because he was healthy.
Meanwhile, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) would most probably file a counter in the Supreme Court soon seeking cancellation of Raju's bail, the agency's DIG Lakshmi Narayana told reporters outside the court premises.
