Schoolchildren took to the roads on Sunday to underscore the importance of religious and moral education.

Under the banner of Markazi Anjuman-e-Qadria, students from madrasas as well as mainstream schools participated in the 50th Deeni Talimi Rally, which started from the Charminar and culminated at the Quli Qutub Shah Stadium.

Dressed in their colourful best, students from nearly 60 schools presented an impressive drill display, followed by a rendition of the Quran and speeches by students in English, Telugu and Urdu.

“The intention of the rally is to spread the message of how Islam is a religion of peace. It does not approve violence,” said Moulana Syed Gulam Samdani Ali Quadri, General Secretary, Markazi Anjuman-e-Quadria.

Syed Hamed Mohammed Quadri Ifteqar Pasha, President, Markazi Anjuman-e-Qadria, said that the rally had become a movement over the years, besides succeeding in creating awareness in the community that along with modern education, religious learning was also important.

Later, mementos were presented to students for their performance in various competitions. The rally was flagged off by Wakf Board Chairman Syed Ghulam Afzal Biyabani.
