Rajesh Choudhary clinched gold in the International Presidents Cup regatta's Laser Radial category at Istanbul, Turkey on Monday, according to information received here. His Army Yachting Node (AYN) teammate B.K. Rout bagged the silver, making it a memorable one-two for India. Rohini Rau, the only other Indian entrant, clinched silver in the women's category.

After Abdullah Gul, President of Turkey, inaugurated the meet on August 12, the local sailors dominated the opening day. In shifty winds and extremely challenging conditions, Choudhary steadily made his way to the top of the 34-member fleet, with Rout not too far behind.

Local lad Levent Ahiskali, the defending champion, tested the Indian frontrunner the most, even leading day three by a solitary point. Rout meanwhile got the gun twice, bringing him within five points of the leader.

The Indian Consul-General, Vanlalhuma, watched Choudhary finishing second, Rohini third and Rout fourth in the ninth race.

In the overall standings, Rohini finished 11th but clinched silver in the women's category. Gajender Singh finished ninth in a fleet of 15 in the Laser Standard.
