The Monday midnight storm that lashed the city paralysed power supply in the city, leaving scores of citizens across the Metro and Ranga Reddy zones sleepless for most part of the night.
Heavy gusts of wind accompanying the thunderstorms post midnight uprooted several trees, knocked down electricity poles, and played havoc with the power infrastructure. Almost all areas suffered outages, while for a few, the ordeal continued for hours on end, up to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
Worst-affected areas include Asmangadh, Saleemnagar, Malakpet, Karwan, Tolichowki, Mehdipatnam, Masab Tank, Quli Qutubshah Tombs, Banjara Hills, Bowenpally, Secunderabad, Saroornagar, Mohan Nagar, Sharada Nagar, Kamalapuri, Hayatnagar, L.B.Nagar, Champapet, Almasguda, and Lenin Nagar among many others.
GHMC reported 30 tree-falls in Ameerpet, Kundanbagh, Madhuranagar, and Mehdipatnam areas. Ten trees fell in Mehdipatnam alone, hampering power restoration works severely.
Water logging was reported from Begumpet and Nampally areas as the civic body’s monsoon data and met department showing rainfall 47.10 mm.
Electric poles too were uprooted at many places including Rajendranagar, Champapet, Asmangadh, and other locations. “Some localities where poles fell down were not accessible for cranes. This delayed the restoration works further,” a Superintendent Engineer informed.
