There was widespread rain across Hyderabad on Saturday evening with the intensity being moderate in some areas.
Several parts of the State also received light to moderate rainfall that could provide some relief from the scorching heat witnessed over the last week. Parts of the city also went without power immediately after the rainfall.
Reports of power cuts were obtained from areas in east and west-central parts of the city including L.B. Nagar and Vijaynagar Colony. GHMC officials said first-response teams were put on standby to address water stagnation complaints. Power officials also said they were prepared to respond to outages.
Rainfall has been predicted for the next 48 hours in the city.
On Saturday, Hyderabad recorded 41.2 degree Celsius, significantly lower from the 42.7 degree Celsius recorded the previous day. With scanty pre-monsoon rainfall, temperatures across the State remained well above normal for more than a week. Weathermen have blamed dry winds from the north for the heat though evenings witness increase in moisture content. The India Meteorological Department said rain-bearing clouds had formed over Nalgonda, Yadadri, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, and Mahbubnagar districts on Saturday evening. Light rainfall was witnessed later in the evening in Vikarabad and parts of Mahbubnagar in the west, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar in the north.
