Indian shuttler P.V. Sindhu took to social media on Saturday to allege that one of Indigo airlines’ ground staff misbehaved with her. The airlines refuted the sportsperson’s claims.

According to Sindhu’s tweets, the incident happened before the Hyderabad to Mumbai Indigo flight 6E 608 took off around 9.50 a.m. In the tweet, she named the airline employee, while alleging that the man spoke rudely with her. She also claimed the employee spoke rudely with a female cabin crew member who advised him to behave properly with her.

“Sorry to say. I had a very bad experience when i was flying by 6E 608 flight to Bombay on November 4,” Sindhu tweeted.

The Olympic silver medal winner’s tweets went viral, prompting a flurry of responses from twitterati. Many slammed the airline while others wondered if the badminton player should have refrained from going public with her allegations.

In a statement, the airline said its employee was calm with the badminton personality. The airline claimed Sindhu had boarded the plane with an oversized baggage which was too big for cabin storage.

“Ms. Sindhu was informed that the baggage would be moved into the cargo hold. This is the same policy we follow for all customers,” the airline stated while citing passenger safety for its employee’s actions.

Sindhu’s father, P.V. Ramana, told reporters that there is no link between the shuttler’s tweet and airline’s response. He said Sindhu’s tweet was about rude behaviour about an airline employee and not her badminton kit. He also said they do not intend to complain but wish to convey to the airline that it should train its staff.
