PSI injured in shootout critical, put on ventilator

Mallikarjun Bande, who got hit in the head in a shootout with a criminal in Gulbarga, brought to Yashoda Hospital

The condition of Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Mallikarjun Bande (40), who received bullet injuries in the head from close range in a shootout with alleged criminal Munna Darbadar in Gulbarga on Wednesday, continued to remain critical. The injured policeman was admitted to Yashoda Hospital, Somajiguda, on Thursday morning and since then has been kept on ventilator.

ASI stable

The second policeman, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Udandappa, who was also injured in the shooting and admitted to Global Hospitals, was in stable condition.

According to doctors, Mr. Bande had undergone extensive surgery for removal of two bullets in his head at a local hospital in Gulbarga. “At this moment, his condition is critical and he is on ventilator support. He continues to remain unconscious and nothing can be speculated till he regains consciousness. We are doing our best,” said chief neurosurgeon, Yashoda Hospitals, P. Ranganatham.

Minister’s visit

Meanwhile, on Thursday evening, Karnataka Home Minister K. J. George reached Hyderabad and visited the hospital to check on the health status of Mr. Bande. The Minister interacted with the doctors and enquired about the condition of the injured policeman.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Counter Intelligence V. C. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police Anurag Sharma and several other top police officials and other dignitaries visited the hospital and enquired about the health of the injured policeman.
