Sleuths of the Task Force, east zone, apprehended a notorious inter-State pseudo-policemen who were wanted in three cases registered with the Mahankali police station. The accused was identified as Showkath Ali, a native of Madhya Pradesh. His accomplice Mashallah, who is also wanted for the crimes, is still absconding.

According to the police, both Showkath and Mashallah belong to the Irani community, and used to sell gemstones in their native place. They decided to impersonate as police personnel to make a quick buck. After meeting in the first week of August, they came to Hyderabad and rented a room in a lodge near the Nampally Dargah.

On August 3, they came near the Mahankali police station and stopped a person who was carrying a bag full of cash. Introducing themselves as police personnel, they told him that he was carrying brown sugar in his luggage and that they need to check it.

After allowing them to do so, the victim later realised that Rs. 7.5 lakh was stolen from him. The duo also committed two other offences in the same PS limits. He was handed over to the Mahankali police for further action.
