BJP State president K. Laxman and other leaders made a vain bid to enter the irrigation tunnel which claimed the life of seven labourers in Thippapur village of Illanthakunta mandal on Thursday.
The BJP State president along with spokesperson S. Kumar, Rajanna-Sircilla district president Prathap Ramakrishna and others visited the accident spot at the tunnel. But, the police prevented them from entering into the tunnel due to security reasons.
Safety norms
Expressing concern over the accident which claimed seven lives, Mr. Laxman alleged that the mishap took place only due to failure of not following the safety norms in the tunnel. He said that they would represent the issue with the Labour Department to take action against the contractor.
He also demanded that the government should order for inquiry by the Director General of Mine Safety (DGMS) to punish the contractor. He demanded an ex-gratia of ₹25 lakh each to bereaved family members. He also flayed the government for imposing restrictions on the visit of politicians and media to the accident spot to cover up the mistake of the government.
