Aggrieved beneficiaries of the Aasara pension scheme staged a demonstration in front of the Samkshema Bhavan here on Tuesday to protest against the difficulties in claiming their monthly pension.

The group of protesters comprising senior citizens, widows and a few physically challenged persons mainly from the Sattupalli constituency alleged that they were unable to get their monthly pensions due to the insistence on Aadhaar-based biometric authentication system at government offices.

A few senior citizens and labourers said they were not able to authenticate their identities through the Aadhaar numbers due to “worn-out fingerprints”.

Stating that several Aasara beneficiaries in Sattupalli constituency were deprived of pension due to technical glitches in the biometric-based authentication process, Sattupalli MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah urged the government to address the issues promptly.

Later, the demonstrators, led by Mr. Veeraiah, submitted a memorandum to the officials concerned at the Samkshema Bhavan, seeking redressal of their grievances.
