A Division Bench of the AP High Court comprising Justice Ashutosh Mohunta and Justice Dama Seshadri Naidu on Monday felt that the admissions into management quota seats in private medical colleges in the State had to be streamlined and some more safeguards need to be put in place to protect the interest of the students.
The Bench was disposing of a batch of writ petitions filed by students who complained that the private medical colleges in the State had not furnished the application forms and were putting onerous conditions and they were not able to attend interviews conducted by the colleges simultaneously.
The Bench took note of the fact that there were disputed questions of fact and it would be difficult to adjudicate in a writ petition filed under Article 226.
The Bench rejected the students’ plea and said from now onwards, the content and the format in the applications of all private colleges shall be uniform and made available even at the university. The interviews should be staggered in such a way that students could attend counselling /interview in as many colleges as possible. The Bench felt that the government should act to see that the admission process was more transparent.
