The government has identified as many as 57 gram panchayats abutting the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) area in Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Medak districts to impose restrictions on property registrations.
A proposal to this effect by the HMDA and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was approved by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy while reviewing Hyderabad-related issues here on Monday.
It was mooted in light of the need to expand HMDA limits to meet future requirements following the influx of people to the city from districts. A top official later said that a draft bill would be prepared to amend the some legislations to impose the registration restrictions.
As per another decision, water and electricity connections will be permitted only in case of approved plans and layouts in GHMC area to prevent unauthorised constructions.
The meeting, which was attended by Municipal Administration Minister M. Maheedhar Reddy, department’s Principal Secretary B.Sam Bob, GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu and HMDA Commissioner Neerabh Kumar Prasad, decided to set up a Town Planning Tribunal to deal with litigation over illegal constructions.
Hyderabad Collector Murtaza Rizvi, Ranga Reddy Collector Vani Prasad and City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy and others were present.
The Chief Minister noted that the 635 sq km of the GHMC areas has 7.75 million population as per the 2011 Census. One-fourth of the buildings in the city were unauthorised while another one-fourth suffered from major deviations in respect to floors and setbacks. Unauthorised constructions and deviations are mostly found with respect to plots below 200-500 square metres.
Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy wanted steps to improve cleaning work all over the city, and make the Expressway and the neighbourhood of the Cancer hospital and other government hospitals neat. He sought installation of alert and senor cameras such as in Delhi airport besides CC cameras on city roads at the earliest.
Officials told him that pedestrian-friendly footpaths were being provided in the city. The Chief Minister urged speeding of the implementation of strategies prepared for integrated traffic management, construction of multi-level parking slots, integrated bus terminal at Miyapur with logistics hubs at Batasingaram, Hayatnagar, Mangalampalli to divert traffic from city roads.
