Project Hyderabad’s history in true light, Asad tells TRS

September 16, 2014 11:15 pm | Updated 11:15 pm IST - Hyderabad:

Majlis president Asaduddin Owaisi asked the Telangana government to project the history of Hyderabad in a true way in the educational curriculum. He alleged that in the name of merger of Hyderabad with the Indian Union all sorts of false stories were in circulation.

“After twisting history one can’t hope for a better future,” he said and urged the TRS government to present the correct history of Hyderabad by including the achievements of the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, and his attempts to promote communal harmony, Mr. Owaisi said.

He was speaking after releasing the Urdu book, ‘Jashan mere taboot pe’ (Celebrations on my coffin), written by senior journalist M.A. Majid, at Press Club here on Tuesday. Abdul Raheem Quraishi, general secretary, All India Muslim Personal Law Board, presided.

The Hyderabad MP accused the government of keeping the Pandit Sunderlal committee report in cold storage all these years. The committee toured the affected areas of Hyderabad after the Police Action. The report was published by noted lawyer A.G. Noorani in his book.

Mr. Owaisi recalled the ‘generous donations’ made by the Nizam to several temples and the steps taken by him to end the devadasi system. His contribution for education was acknowledged in a resolution passed by the Hindu Mahasabha in its conference held in Hyderabad in 1931. “Can anyone deny this,” the Majlis leader asked.

He condemned efforts by some political parties to whip up passions every year on the eve of September 17 and said the by-poll result showed that people were fed up of such communal forces.
