Cardiologists drawn from a host of private hospitals in the city on Friday said that State should have a standardised programme to manage heart attacks in all hospitals.
Doctors felt that such a programme would enable healthcare providers to efficiently tackle the ever increasing number of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) cases and also improve existing standard operating procedures to handle heart attack cases. “It’s now projected that the number of Indians with CAD is above six crore out of which 2.3 crore are below 40 years and one crore younger than 30 years. We need to set up standardised treatment protocols, develop a heart attack care programme for Telangana and train the doctors on handling heart attacks,” said interventional cardiologist, Dr. Thomas Alexander.
