The Legislative Assembly was being used as a propaganda instrument of the ruling party by suppressing the opposition’s voice instead of being a platform to discuss people’s problems, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said and urged professionals and intellectuals to raise this serious issue on various platforms.

Mr. Reddy, who was speaking at the launch of the Telangana chapter of the All India Professionals Congress (AIPC) here on Sunday, said democracy was in grave danger in Telangana with all democratic institutions, including media, being suppressed and it was time professionals express their opinion strongly against the anti-democratic attitude of the government.

The TPCC chief said in the last elections somehow professionals were carried away by Mr. Narendra Modi at the Centre and Mr. K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the State but after three year they were realising how dangerous the country and the state have become.

“Congress is the best choice for professionals to express their views and this initiative of Mr. Rahul Gandhi will go a long way in setting democratic process right and also ensuring space for professionals in serious politics,” he said.

AICC secretary and Telangana incharge R.C. Khuntia said the effort of Mr. Rahul Gandhi was to create space for professionals in the party and later in governance. is a unique idea and that will bring the party closer to the people through these opinion leaders.

Economy destroyed

He lambasted the Central government on hasty implementation of GST and the demonetisation that has destroyed the economy and lives of millions. Professionals can play a crucial role in exposing these unilateral decisions of the Central government to the common man through their chapters.

South India Coordinator for AIPC J. Geeta Reddy explained the reasons and the need for professionals to come into the Congress. She said they need not come onto the roads like political activists but discuss the local and national issues at their local chapters and send the recommendations to the party to be included in the party manifesto.

Part-time

She said the party was not expecting them to be full time political workers but play a catalyst role organising seminars, debates and soft programmes in issues concerning the nation. She asked them to organise a candlelight rally to register their protest on November 8, the day demonetisation was announced last year.

Earlier, the state team of AIPC was formally inducted with TPCC chief spokesperson Sravan Dasoju as chairman. Kalyan Narla is vice president and Santosh Kumar secretary. Mahila Congress chairperson Nerella Sharada, former Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy, Telangana Youth Congress president Anil Kumar Yadav, TPCC legal cell chairman Damodar Reddy, NRI cell chairman Vinod Kumar, were among those present. Professionals from various sectors participated in the programme.
