Probe sought into irregularities in voters’ list

April 30, 2014 11:32 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 01:55 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy alleged large-scale irregularities in the electoral rolls and demanded a high-level probe into the lapses.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, he blamed the Election Commission and GHMC for the irregularities and low voter turnout in the city. At many places, voters did not find their names despite having ID cards. Similarly, many first time voters, who were given ID cards, did not find their names in the list.

Citing a few examples, he said names of 700 voters of Amberpet municipal division were found in Vidyanagar division. Names of voters from Golnaka were found in Baghamberpet. He said the GHMC authorities did not distribute even 30 per cent of the voter slips and at several places the EVMs malfunctioned. The impact of all these led to low turnout, he said and demanded accountability from the officials.
