A police investigation been launched to investigate how a fake no objection certificate with the intention to alienate a waqf land parcel was issued.
The Telangana State Waqf Board had convened a meeting last week to discuss the issue. An alarmed board Chief Executive Officer M. A. Mannan Farooqui had lodged a compliant with the Abids police station after being informed of the issue.
“So far at least five employees of the board have been questioned. Their statements have been recorded,” a senior board official who did not wish to be identified said. Apart from the Mr. Farooqui, cops quizzed staff working in the board's protection and survey section. Sources said that more persons are likely to be questioned in the near future. Cops are believed to have asked staff whether about documents related to the fake no objection certificate exist.
“There seems to be no record of any application seeking a no objection certificate. There is document in the tappal also. Alarmed at seeing his signature, the Chief Executive Officer himself wrote to the Collector seeking information whether, the fake certificate was produced. We are yet to know what happens,” a source from the board said.
However, Board chairman M. A. Saleem said that all persons, including Mr. Farooqui would be investigated.
