Private hospital fleecing patients: MP

April 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Mohd Ali Khan shot off a letter to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda lodging a strong complaint against the management of Yashoda Hospitals for allegedly fleecing and following unethical medical practices.

The Member of Parliament in his letter narrated that last month he had to admit his wife to Yashoda Hospital in Malakpet as she was suffering from diarrhoea.

The duty doctor was told that the patient underwent a number of tests like Chest x-ray, blood grouping, ultrasonography of abdomen and it was important for him to talk to the family doctor residing in Delhi, according to Mr. Khan.

However, the doctors conducted the same tests and more once again and did not even consult the family doctor, complained Mr. Khan.

He alleged that the hospital staff refused to acknowledge the CGHS card even though it was empanelled under the scheme and insisted on payment of deposit of Rs. 40,000. He stated that the doctors insisted that the patient should stay in the hospital for at least three days and started medication without taking into account the patients medical history because of which she developed rashes.

He informed that he had to pay Rs. 25,000 for staying in the hospital for less than a day.

Through the letter, the Member of Parliament raised a number of questions such as the fate of a common man when admitted to private hospitals and the way they were robbing the government’s money through CGHS through inflated bills. He also pointed out that the fee for doctors and nurses was very high but that of the bed very low so as to evade taxes.

He demanded that stringent action be taken against the hospital and also cancel the CGHS empanelment.

The MP also demanded that the All India Medical Council should cancel the licence of the hospital for conducting unnecessary tests and providing improper treatment.
