Prisoner attacks Cherlapally warder

A warder of Cherlapally central prison sustained injuries after a prisoner, who was sentenced for life, attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon on Monday.

The incident happened when warder Shaik Darga (24) was attending to duties at the Manjeera barrack. The 23-year-old convict, Sai Kumar, made the weapon using an aluminium plate and attacked the warder, resulting in injuries on his forehead and back.

Policemen present immediately overpowered the prisoner, and rushed the warder to Gandhi Hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.

Police inquires revealed that Kumar was serving a life-sentence for the murder of his one-year-old son. Based on a complaint lodged by Jail Deputy Superintendent Rahul, Kushaiguda police have booked a case against the prisoner. Further investigations are on.
