Senior civic officials of the city have come up with a proposal to introduce a pre-paid auto service facility within the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS).
At the Ninth Technical Advisory Committee meeting of Comprehensive Transportation Study (CTS) for the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area held recently, the traffic officials made the suggestion on a facility for pre-paid auto service to avoid hardships for passengers and ease the chaos that usually prevails there.
During the meeting, which was attended by officials from various departments and traffic experts, the Roads & Buildings officials said that as a long term plan, a flyover covering the intersections of Narsapur and Fatehnagar could be built.
Given the constraints in widening of the road between Bus stop no. 6 and Sri Ramana theatre, a proposal for a flyover there too is under consideration.
During deliberations, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was also suggested to examine the bottleneck at the approach of Hi-Tec City flyover near Shilparamam and mitigate the problem.
The other issues that came for mention included providing a zebra crossing for the junction located near Neredmet intersection and better pedestrian connectivity between MGBS and bus stops close to the main entry.
The closing of North East gate of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) for vehicular traffic to avoid conflicts also figured in the meet.
LEA Associates South Asia, consultants for the study, having completed parking surveys at Ameerpet, Kandaswamy Market and Begum Bazar, observed that the short-term parking requirements here were very high and stressed the need to examine the viability of off-street parking facilities.
