Power tariff hike put on hold

March 21, 2014 11:46 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 09:48 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The State Election Commission has ruled that the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission’s revised power tariff from April 1 should be put on hold as the model code of conduct is in force.

Addressing a media conference here on Friday, SEC Secretary Navin Mittal said elections to Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad territorial constituencies would be held in two phases, provided the Supreme Court gives its approval. The SEC filed an affidavit in the SC proposing minor changes for holding elections in two phases on April 6 and 8, which will come up before the apex court on March 24. In case the court does not approve the change in the poll schedule, elections will be held in a single phase on April 6, he said. A total of 12,590 nominations were filed for 1,096 ZPTCs and 1,17,629 nominations filed for 16,589 MPTCs on the last day of nominations on Thursday.

The scrutiny of nominations was on and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 24 after which symbols would be allotted to the candidates.
