The District Congress Committee (DCC) leaders were in an upbeat mood and claimed that they would clinch eight Assembly seats of the total 12 seats and two Parliament seats in erstwhile Warangal district.

The party leaders and workers were elated with TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy’s recent bus yatra in the district. They said it helped not only to boost morale of the cadre in rural parts but reached out to the people as well. The party could counter the false propaganda launched by the ruling TRS party.

Speaking to The Hindu , DCC president Naini Rajender Reddy said, after a long gap the party had undertaken a mass contact programme. It had come at an appropriate time and they would keep the tempo up till the next general elections scheduled in a year. “There has been criticism that the Congress party is a divided house. The bus yatra proved it false as it witnessed leaders rallying behind the TPCC president. Another criticism is there is no proper rebuttal to the claims of ruling TRS party on various issues. This was also answered by the Congress party through the bus yatra,” he said.

According to him, the claims of Chief Minister KCR retaining power in Telangana were dubious as the survey done by him rated the performance of ruling party MLAs very low across the State. “For instance, two collectors, of Mahabubabad and Jangaon, were transferred following a tiff with the ruling party MLAs. Instead of backing the officers for their sincere efforts, the Chief Minister supported the MLAs who had earned bad name through their activities,” Mr. Rajender Reddy said.

The DCC president said people were deeply discontent with the MLAs at Mahabubabad, Jangoan, Palakurthy, Mulug, Bhupalpally, Warangal East, Warangal West, Station Ghanpur, Dornakal and Palakurthy. “One need not analyse too technically to assess the result of forthcoming elections. The Congress party will win more than eight seats and also the two Parliament seats in erstwhile Warangal district,” Mr. Rajender Reddy said, exuding confidence.
