Minister P. Mahender Reddy says Sub-Inspector Ramesh Ramavath committed suicide for personal reasons.

Minister P. Mahender Reddy says Sub-Inspector Ramesh Ramavath committed suicide for personal reasons.

Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy on Friday denied allegations that there was political and sand mafia link to the suicide of Sub Inspector of Police of Yalal in Ranga Reddy district, Ramesh Ramavath, on September 15.

“As for as my knowledge goes, there is no sand business in the police station limits where the SI was posted. When there is no sand, how can the suicide be linked to politicians and sand mafia,” the Minister said, addressing a press conference here. “I will accompany reporters, if anybody is willing, to visit the area to find if there is any sand business going on there,” the Minister said.

Mr. Mahender Reddy made the comments when asked about allegations against him in the SI’s suicide issue. The Superintendent of Police of Ranga Reddy district and the post-mortem report of the SI’s body had made it clear that the SI had committed suicide by hanging to a tree due to “personal reasons”, he pointed out.

“I have been instructing the authorities from time to time to register criminal cases, if anybody is found to be mining sand or engaged in sand business illegally. The SI’s suicide has nothing to do with politics, the Minister said, adding that he had already demanded a probe by the CBI or any other special committee, individually,” he noted.

On the padayatra by TDP MLA T. Prakash Goud from Chevella to Pranahita project site in Adilabad against proposed changes in the design of Pranahitha-Chevella lift irrigation project, particularly with regard to Ranga Reddy district, Mr. Mahender Reddy said some Opposition party leaders were making an issue out of nothing in spite of repeated assurances by the government that the interests of the district would not be compromised.

“The TDP is trying to prove its existence by taking up a campaign on the issue. The TRS is very strong in the district and will prove its mettle in the GHMC elections,” Mr. Mahender Reddy asserted.

TDP launches padayatra

Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party leaders criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao led State Government for contemplating changes in the design of Pranahita- Chevella project against the interests of people of Ranga Reddy and other districts. They were addressing a meeting at the launch of padayatra by Mr. Goud.
