The APSRTC has decided to experiment with the queue system from October second week at 10 bus stops.

These bus stops are located on the Dilsukhnagar-Abids route, Abids-Mehdipatnam and Punjagutta-S.R. Nagar. Bus stops at Mehdipatnam, Abids (Grammar School), Dilsukhnagar and Ameerpet will be spruced up appropriately to ensure the new system is initiated without any problem, RTC officials explained.

Forming queues to enter buses would be quite loathsome to the people of twin cities even though many of them are forced to do acrobatics to get into the buses daily.

The Telangana government, however, is determined to make them fall in line. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to rope in the police to ensure that passengers waiting at bus stops form queues to enter the buses.

While the GHMC and RTC officials have been chalking out plans to introduce barricading at bus stops and redesign the entry and exit doors of buses, the city police are gearing up to do their bit as well.

“Besides, the personnel from the traffic wing, the law and order policemen would also be deployed at bus stops to regulate the passengers,” Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said.

Fair chance for all The Commissioner has made it clear that the police would only facilitate formation of queues at bus stops, but the responsibility of increasing the frequency of buses on crowded routes lies with RTC officials. This is essential to instil confidence among passengers that everyone would have a fair chance of getting into a bus by waiting in the line for a few minutes, he pointed out.

During peak hours and on certain routes, where a large number of passengers gather at bus stops, RTC is planning t send many buses simultaneously, hence all passengers can board buses within a short span of waiting period.

Policemen and RTC employees working at the bus stops will be given wireless sets to update the authorities on requirement of buses which can be sent on that particular route accordingly.

Huge electronic display boards will be installed at bus stops to inform passengers about the arrival time of the next bus on a particular route.

The space in front of bus stops will be barricaded with a vent.

Drivers will be asked to stop the bus with the entry door in line with the vent so that only those standing in the queue could get into the bus.

Second door of the bus will be used only to alight, the Commissioner said.
