September 21, 2013 10:08 pm | Updated June 02, 2016 07:19 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The city police have promised that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the rape and kidnap of a polytechnic student by a 34-year-old canteen owner of a private college.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, DCP (South) Tarun Joshi termed reports of police acting in a biased manner as false.

“It is a serious issue for us, and the investigation is going on in the right direction. The charge-sheet in the case will be filed soon,” Mr. Joshi said.

He clarified that police had arrested the accused based on a complaint lodged by the girl at the Santoshnagar police station on September 5.

“We booked a case against the accused under various Sections, including the Nirbhaya Act, and nabbed him,” the officer said.

The DCP also appealed to youngsters not to fall prey to gimmicks of those who were trying to create law and order problems in the city following the issue.
