Police have requested the family of Telangana Praja Front president Akula Bhoomaiah to pass on any material that could prove that he was murdered. Bhoomaiah was moved down by a GHMC tipper on December 24 at Nallakunta.
The victim, a resident of Adikmet, was returning home on his scooter after attending a book release function at the Somajiguda press club, when a speeding tipper rammed the two-wheeler from behind near Vidyanagar crossroads at around 9.40 p.m.
Based on a complaint lodged by his family that the State government was behind the ‘killing’, Nallakunta police registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. A fortnight after the incident, investigators are completely at sea with circumstantial evidence and account of eyewitnesses indicating that it was a road mishap.
Family sticks to claim
Meanwhile, Bhoomaiah’s family are sticking to their guns that it was murder.
“We are continuing our probe. We have also requested the family to share any information or material indicating it to be murder,” a city police officer said.
Cleaner drove truck
Suspicions had arisen after the tipper by driven by the cleaner, D. Chennaiah (28), and not the usual driver Ravinder, who was away as he had to attend an Ayyappa puja at Malakpet.
Chennaiah possessed a driving license and was not drunk as confirmed by a medical test done by the police soon after the accident. A certificate was also issued in this regard by the doctor.
“Till now we had not come across any evidence suggesting that the driver had any intention to kill Bhoomaiah. But the investigation is not yet complete,” the police said.
