A businessman, Deepak Kakad, was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the recent communal riots in the twin cities for sending provocative SMSes after the violence broke out, announced Additional Commissioner of Police (Crimes) K. Narasimha Reddy at a press conference here on Sunday.
The noose was also tightening around the main conspirators involved in the old city riots, he claimed. “We have clues and we will definitely nab them,” he said and explained that communal history-sheets would be opened against those found to be involved in more than four such cases. Mr. Reddy said that at least 270 persons involved in 170 cases, including three murders, were arrested so far. Four persons were nabbed for killing a person at Tappachabutra -- Ferozullah Khan, Mohammed Mazher, Abdul Sattar and Abdul Raheem.
Three other persons were arrested in connection with two murders at Shahalibanda and a manhunt was on to nab three more, he said. Of the 30 cases booked for attacking places of worship, the accused involved in 15 cases were nabbed till now. “With the help of video footage and cell phone call details, we are trying to trace the offenders,” the Additional Commissioner said.
Meanwhile, TDP corporator Raju Singh, who was arrested for his involvement in communal violence, was remanded to judicial custody on Sunday.
