A gang of four women from Maharashtra, caught selling Chinese mobile phones while passing them off as the Nokia brand, were arrested by the police on Friday.

Rekha, 32, Jyoti, 28, Mangilee, 35, and Gajara Bai, 50, would purchase mobile phones made in China — each costing Rs. 500 — paste Nokia battery stickers and holograms on them and prepare fake bills before selling them second-hand to unsuspecting customers, Commissioner’s Task Force (North) Inspector A.P. Anand Kumar said.

The gang used to go around different localities in the city and sell each phone for Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000 by furnishing the fake bills. They would maintain that they were selling the phones since they urgently required money.
