Osmania University has claimed that the Ph.D admission process was carried out in a transparent manner without any scope for external influences and considerations.
In response to reports in the media, the OU Registrar maintained that deans of the faculties have been instructed to strictly adhere to regulations and UGC guidelines. “There is absolutely no scope for extraneous influences and considerations. The university seeks to allay all apprehensions on this count,” he said in a statement here.
“The university has successfully resolved the differences on this issue with OUTA. The dialogue and discussions with them have paved way for amicable settlement, taking back of resignations, withdrawal of non-cooperation. The admissions are under finalisation and the list will be displayed shortly,” the statement added. It said the media reports had created an erroneous impression among the public and led to misgivings among the teachers, students and other stakeholders of the system. The university also denied the allegations of succumbing to pressure, influencing the concerned and buying peace. Moreover, there is no veracity in the statement that Ph.D. admissions had become a mockery and the interview part can be ‘managed’.
The statement said Ph.D entrance test was conducted this year as per UGC stipulations. The qualifying mark fixed last year had to be followed for this year owing to procedural requirement. On account of this the university could not make any change in the qualifying mark this time. “The OU statement was silent on the messages sent out from V-C’s office to some deans and the requests made through phone calls to accommodate some ‘leaders’ of student groups and those associated with the political parties.
