Permission to Sunburn Festival questioned

The Congress came down heavily on the permission given to Sunburn Festival in the city questioning as to why the Government was promoting an event where drug abuse is rampant and was in controversies in Goa and Maharashtra.

Former MP V. Hanumantha Rao staged a dharna at the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate seeking cancellation of permission. Later, he gave a representation to the officials. Earlier, he also visited Gachibowli stadium to see the arrangements being done for the event and picked up an argument with the police officials on the permission extended to it.

TPCC spokesperson Addanki Dayakar said the government was promoting drug culture in the city through such parties and the Chief Minister was totally ignorant on it. How was permission being given to such parties while denying it to democratic protests by the parties or students, he asked.

Referring to TRS MLC P. Rajeshwar Reddy’s criticism of Revanth Reddy on the same issue, he said Rajeshwar Reddy doesn’t have the stature to criticise Revanth.

On Mr. Reddy seeking Revanth’s resignation, he advised him to ask the Speaker to take a decision on people who shifted loyalties to TRS after being elected on other party symbols.
