The curious case of ‘missing baby’ from Sultan Bazaar Maternity Hospital has yet again brought to the fore the unsettling penchant for the male child.
On Monday, the hospital administration found itself in a sticky situation when father of a newborn raised a hue and cry saying his family was handed a girl child when his wife had actually given birth to a boy.
The police was called and asked to look into the allegations but the matter could not by resolved by end of the day. The hospital administration explained that Rajitha gave birth through caesarean to a baby girl at 12.22 on Monday. Four minutes later, Ramadevi gave birth to a boy. When nurses called Ramadevi’s attenders, Rajitha’s family responded to the call and took possession of the baby, leading to the conflict between the families and the hospital. “We have no doubts about the identity of the babies as the tags were properly tied. But Rajitha’s family thinks their new arrival was a baby boy. So we called the police,” said a hospital official.
May also avail DNA fingerprint
The police informed that doctors may peruse ultrasound images to establish parenthood of the babies and may also avail DNA fingerprint. “We will carry out the verification process with the images on Wednesday,” a Sultan Bazaar police official informed.
