PCB to conduct hearing on EIA on Kaleshwaram

Package 19 to benefit 38 villages

The Pollution Control Board (PCB) will conduct public hearing on Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) of Kaleshwaram Project for construction of canals and reservoirs in the undivided Medak district.

The first hearing will be at Narayanakhed on August 23 at Maa Function Hall. The second one will be on August 24 at Sri Sai Balalji Gardens at Chegunta Crossroads followed by the third one at Viola Gardens in Siddipet town on August 26. Environmental Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) Gatchibowli is the EIA consultant.

The capital investment in Kaleshwaram Project is approximately ₹80,499.71 crore.

In Sangareddy and Medak districts the project, when completed, would supply irrigation water to about 1.17 lakh acres under package 19. The main canal work would commence from Mahammadabad in Narsapur mandal of Medak district to Peddareddypally village in Pulkal mandal of Sangareddy district with a stretch of 37.9 km.

This would benefit Narsapur, Kowdipally, Kuclharam, Alladurg, Regod, Tekmal, Papannapet and Shankarampet in Medak district and Hatnkoora, Pulkal, Andol, Kalher and Narayankhed in Sangareddy district.

In all 283.31 acres of land is required for main canal in Medak district followed by 243.38 acres in Sangareddy district. However, land acquisition has not begun for canals in these districts.

While main canal will pass through 12 villages in Hatnoora and Pulkal mandals of Sangareddy district, the first right sub canal will pass through eight villages in Hatnoora and Andol mandals followed by second right sub-canal that will pass through Pulkal and Andol mandals.

These canals under the 19th package will provide irrigation water to ayacut in 38 villages in Hatnoora, Andol, Kalher and Narayanakhed mandals.
