In another instance of industrial waste being dumped in water bodies, the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) seized another vehicle involved in the illegal activity on Friday night. A team of senior environment engineers of the Board detected a tanker at Choutuppal area transporting untreated effluents.

In a planned operation to curb the activity, the officers kept vigil on tanker movements proceeding towards Outer Ring Road. The team found a tanker moving toward Pedda Amberpet to Nagole road near Kuntloor. Before the tanker could discharge the waste in Musi river, the team chased the tanker for 6 km and intercepted it. Bearing a registration number AP29U 5527, the tanker was bringing the effluents from Ortin Laboratories located in Malkapuram, Choutuppal. According to officials, the chemical waste was to be taken to the Kuntloor area to be dumped in Musi river.

Upon interrogation, the driver and owner of the tanker, Jayapal Reddy admitted that it was the third time that he was helping in discharging effluents from the unit into the river, according to the officials of the Board. The tanker was kept in safe custody at Jeedimetla Effluent Treatment Limited (JETL) plant for further inquiry. The Board decided to close the industry immediately after the incident.

The TSPCB has appealed to the citizens to inform them if they notice such illegal activity.
