Pawan not to contest, but support friends

April 16, 2014 08:27 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:23 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Actor and founder of Jana Sena Party (JSP) Pawan Kalyan has made it clear that he would not enter the fray nor field any candidate on behalf of his party anywhere in the State.

This assertion came out soon after industrialist Potluri Varaprasad and a few others met the actor at his office on Wednesday morning. While reports flew thick and fast that Mr. Varaprasad and others would enter the poll fray as Independents, Mr. Kalyan, it is learnt, has only assured them that he would campaign for them as a friend and that they would not be fielded as JSP candidates.

A close associate of Mr. Kalyan said the actor had clarified that he would work with friendly parties in the National Democratic Alliance for the elections. “At every internal party meeting we had in the last few days, he has been reiterating that no one would be fielded on behalf of the JSP,” he said.

The JSP chief sparked off a new debate after he told a news channel in Karnataka on Tuesday that he would support Lok Satta Party founder Jayaprakash Narayan in Malkajgiri Lok Sabha constituency as he considers Dr. Narayan a friend.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kalyan is expected to announce his campaign schedule in Telangana and Seemandhra in a couple of days.
