An octogenarian patient and an attendant sustained critical wounds while three others were injured when a doctor's car ran amok at the Outpatient Ward on Osmania General Hospital premises on Thursday.

The car ran over the legs of the 85-year-old male patient while it crushed the leg of a woman attendant sitting outside the OP ward. Three others suffered minor wounds in the accident.

A plastic surgeon, Rehman Qureshi, parked his car near the OP ward. “He asked the security guard Shivarajan to shift the car to another place if it obstructed movement of people,” Afzalgunj Inspector Gnanender Reddy said.

Shivarajan didn’t have a driving licence. Failing to notice that the car was in gear, he turned the ignition key. “As the car jumped forward, the panicked security guard slammed on the accelerator pedal instead of the brake,” the Inspector said.

The speeding car hit those sitting outside the OP ward. A criminal case was registered both against the security guard and the doctor.
