Panel to help HMR quicken land acquisition

June 14, 2011 11:19 am | Updated 11:19 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The government on Monday announced the constitution of a special committee to negotiate with the owners of private buildings that have come up on government land across the three metro rail corridors for land acquisition.

The committee consists of GHMC Additional Commissioner (Development Planning) K. Dhananjaya Reddy, GHMC Special Deputy Collector of Land Acquisition, Executive Engineer of Hyderabad Metro Rail's respective corridor and HMR General Manager (Land Management), according to the orders issued by Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration & Urban Development B. Sam Bob.

The panel was formed following a request by the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR to the government once it had realised that there were 140 properties where there were long standing private buildings of small houses, shops and so on but had come up on government lands, also known as Government Vested Municipal (GVM) lands.

Compensation

Usually there is no compensation for government lands but HMR decided to make an exception considering that the properties have been occupied by common people for several years and had sought the government's assistance in forming a panel to negotiate with the property owners for payment of structural and land compensation.

“We had requested the government to allow us to discuss the ex gratia amount with the GVM occupants for quickening the land acquisition as it had become one of the major hurdles for road widening,” said HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy.

1,262 properties identified

Altogether, HMR and GHMC had identified 1,262 properties -- most cases are to be affected partly by road widening in the three corridors or lines. The organisations had also narrowed down to a nine-km road stretch for immediate widening to ensure smooth flow of traffic during the construction stage.

These include: Line One – L.B. Nagar to Miyapur: Jambagh Road, Nalgonda crossroads to Market; Line Two – Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma: Musheerabad-RTC crossroads, Kachiguda crossroads to Koti junction via Sultan Bazar and Line Three – Nagole to Shilparamam: Greenlands to Ameerpet, Sarathi Studios to Yousufguda Check Post, from Yousufguda Check Post to Road No.1 Jubilee Hills via Krishna Nagar and Road No.5, Jubilee Hills.
