Panel reviews welfare schemes

April 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:47 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A committee of Ministers that reviewed the implementation of welfare schemes has decided to take up the construction of 20 residential schools and 20 residential hostels in Telangana, two each in every district, to make them functional in the coming academic year.

The decision follows Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s direction to start the KG to PG free and compulsory education programme from the next academic year on an experimental basis. Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiam Srihari (Education), Md. Mahamood Ali (Revenue), Ministers Jogu Ramanna (BC Welfare) and A. Chandulal (Tribal Welfare) held a review meeting here on Saturday with officials of all welfare departments.

Mr. Srihari instructed the authorities to increase the cosmetics charges of students in hostels and to enhance the additional uniform stitching charges. He also spoke to the officials of the State Level Bankers’ Committee and requested them to extend educational loans on a large scale.
