TRS legislator from Medak Padma Devender Reddy is likely to be the party nominee for the post of Deputy Speaker of the Telangana Assembly.

Party sources said Ms. Padma has been convinced by the party leadership to accept the post, though she was a bit reluctant as she had expected a berth in the Cabinet in the next expansion.

The party leadership faced a similar dilemma over selection of the Speaker with senior MLAs like Koppula Easwar and Chandulal, declining to accept the post. The party then decided to name S. Madhusudhana Chary for the post.

Party sources said Ms. Padma was informally told about her selection and she is to file her nomination papers on Wednesday after the Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan’s address to the joint session of Telangana Legislature.

A law graduate, Ms. Padma is two-time MLA having been elected earlier from Ramayampet constituency in 2004. She fought the 2009 elections as rebel candidate after she was denied ticket.
