For all those who like to spend their weekend in nature’s lap, trying their hand at fishing, waking up in a serene atmosphere amid chirping of birds, here is a new facility on the city fringes. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) re-launched the lake resort at Shamirpet on Sunday.
The entire premises has been refurbished at a cost of about Rs. 1 crore and is now equipped with a multi-cuisine restaurant, sculpture park and 12 upgraded cottages.
This apart, the authorities are planning to introduce boating, gym and spa and adventure sports facilities at the resort shortly, said Chandana Khan, Special Chief Secretary, Tourism, while addressing media persons on Sunday.
The objective is to offer the best facilities at affordable prices. There are many private resorts in the area, but the prices are exorbitant, and not many can afford those resorts.

After a 25-km drive from the city towards Alwal, Bolarum and the National Industrial Security Academy, one reaches the Shamirpet lake resort.
As an inaugural offer, the authorities are offering free transportation for those travelling in groups from Tank Bund and Paryatak Bhavan to the resort.

Those who wish to travel by buses, there are RTC city buses that take them close to the resort.
Special focus is laid on security. Six guards have been deployed at the resort, and another six will be added very shortly. Surveillance cameras will also be installed.
