A private clinic manager landed behind bars after his pet dog bit a school student at Vasanth Vihar Colony in Moula Ali under the Malkajgiri police station limits on Thursday.

The arrested person has been identified as S. Sai Kiran (26) of Vasantha Clinic here. The girl, D. Satya Adithi (10), a class VI student, had come to the baby care centre run by her mother, Bharathi, near Kiran’s house on Saturday last.

While she was entering the centre, Kiran’s pet dog attacked her resulting in grievous injury on her left leg so much so that a portion of the flesh got cut. The girl’s mother rushed her to a nearby private hospital where her condition was stable, according to the police.

Not on leash

Police said Kiran had not kept the dog on a leash. Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s father, Prasada Rao, the police registered a case under Section 289 (Negligent conduct with respect to animal) of IPC and arrested Kiran.

Malkajgiri Sub-Inspector E. Jahangir Yadav said that Kiran was produced in the Ranga Reddy district court, which granted him a bail on Friday.
