All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court’s modified order on playing the national anthem in cinema halls by making it optional.

Speaking to the media at party headquarters in Darussalaam, Mr. Owaisi said, “I am in total agreement with the Supreme Court. Many people, especially from the minority communities and the physically handicapped, were harassed and targeted by vigilantes, who support the RSS and BJP.”

The Parliamentarian said that the Bharatiya Janata Party is associating “Hindu nationalism with everything” even as he hoped that a party would re-look their stand on such subjects. “Unfortunately, the present government does not read the pulse of the common man, but acts according the pulse of the RSS,” he said.

Mr. Owaisi also used the opportunity to lash out at Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board chairman Waseem Rizvi for his controversial comments about madrassas and his call for shutting them down.
