Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Friday seized an unaccounted amount of Rs. 1,20,860 during a surprise check at Road Transport Authority’s check-post at Shapur in Ranga Reddy district.
The check revealed that Punna Srinivas, an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector in-charge of the check-post, and two of his constables had engaged three private persons to collect bribes from drivers of vehicles passing through the check-post, a statement from the ACB said.
The trio, M. Malla Reddy, M. Vishal and P. Narayana Murthy, used to stop vehicles at the check-post and collect money from the drivers.
Currency on table
The AMV was in-charge of the check-post from 9 p.m. on Thursday to 8 a.m. on Friday. An amount of Rs.53,860 was seized from these three private persons.
While questioning the trio, the ACB officials noticed drivers and cleaners of vehicles leaving currency notes of different denomination on a table kept at the verandah of the check-post.
The ACB officials also seized Rs.67,000 left on the table by the drivers.
A report was being sent to the government on the findings, they said.
