Over 7,000 smart cards sold

As many as 7,000 smart prepaid cards of ₹200 denomination have been sold by L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH) authorities in the last two days, indicating the enthusiasm among the travelling public for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will be inaugurating the service at the Miyapur metro station for 30 km from Nagole to Miyapur on Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Modi, Mr. Rao and other select VIPs are to travel up to Kukatpally metro station and return without getting down. A grand inaugural pylon has been kept ready for the Prime Minister to unveil to commemorate the occasion. The duo would then proceed towards HICC for the Global Entrepreneurs Summit (GES) in Madhapur. Metro rail authorities have indicated that regular commercial operations for the general public will begin at 6 a.m. Wednesday (November 29) and will continue till 10 p.m from Nagole to Miyapur via Ameerpet interchange station with more trains likely between Miyapur and Ameerpet because of the demand.

Once the system stabilises and everyone — passengers and metro rail staff — get used to the operations, the number of trains (57 three car trains in total) and frequency is to be gradually increased. Three car trains with a carrying capacity of 1,000 passengers will be pressed into service from day one.
