OU teachers call off strike after CPS assurance

The Osmania University Teachers’ Association (OUTA) called off their indefinite strike after the Government decided to extend the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to varsity teachers.

OUTA president Battu Satyanarayana, in a statement, said that as per the decision, employees recruited on or after September 1, 2004, will be covered under CPS. As per the scheme, 10% of basic plus DA will be deducted from employees’ salary and the same amount will be contributed by the employer and credited to their permanent accounts.

That the Government has agreed to extend the old pension scheme to those recruited between April 1, 2001, and August 31, 2004, was informed to the agitating teachers by OU Vice-Chancellor.
