Violent protest over the proposal to construct houses for poor people on Osmania University lands continued on Tuesday with the students damaging a petrol pump at Tarnaka.

Several students belonging to Osmania University Unemployed Students Association and Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarti Parishad (ABVP) rushed to the petrol bunk in a rally. The group damaged a fuel dispensing machine. Police who were present near the fuel station rushed to the spot immediately and took them into custody. About 20 of the protestors were shifted to Bolaram police station.

Speaking to press persons, J Kalyan, student leader, said that the agitation will continue till the Government takes back the lands leased out to different institutions and establishments. He claimed that around 300 acres of land belonging to Osmania University has been leased out over a period of time.

On Monday, the students pelted stones at a hotel belonging to a TRS MLA alleging that it was constructed after encroaching upon the university land.

In the afternoon different students organisations took out a protest rally from Arts College to Tarnaka. However, the police stopped the rally at O U police station following which the students staged a sit on the road for sometime.
