Tension prevailed at Tarnaka crossroads on Friday when Osmania University students clashed with the police resulting in injuries to 20 people.

About 20 students were injured in the clash. They were also arrested and moved to the OU Police Station.

Traffic blocked

Traffic on the busy Tarnaka road was held up for a while as irate students blocked the traffic till the police intervened. The students actually wanted to proceed towards Raj Bhavan in a rally. They wanted to represent to the Governor to press the Government not to fill up the vacant posts with contract employees and also direct the Government to fill up the vacancies through a notification.

Students charged the police of having resorted to a lathi-charge when they tried to take out the rally.

Earlier, scores of students owing allegiance to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Bahujan Students Front (BSF) and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) took out a rally from the University College of Arts & Social Sciences to Tarnaka after closing down the University Library.

Students were apparently furious with the recent Cabinet’s decision to regularise all the contract employees in various departments. Carrying placards, they shouted slogans against the Government and demanded immediate justice. Students also stated they had ‘fought’ for a separate Telangana to gain employment but the Government was acting unilaterally
