A series of interchanges, rotaries and central medians that have been made part of the 158-km-long Outer Ring Road (ORR) would soon get a touch of aesthetics with authorities deciding to go for a beautification project.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority has come up with the proposal to beautify these traffic islands by installing artefacts and sculptures apart from landscaping, water bodies and fountains at appropriate points. For beautification works, the urban planning body has invited ‘expression of interest’ from advertising agencies, corporate firms and individuals for concepts and executing the approved ones.
Hyderabadi culture
The call is for designs that are aesthetically appealing, informative and based on themes representing the culture and heritage of Hyderabad. It has been decided to have sculpture works executed in steel, rock, cement, sand or any other non-hazardous material with all-weather resistance coating. The selected agencies or firms will have to bear the cost of executing the concept, operate and maintain the traffic island for three years and in turn would be permitted to display advertisement boards for that period.
For the beautification works, the selected ORR junctions include the entrance of the central median at Gachibowli and rotaries at Nanakramguda, Kokapet on Gandipet road, Andhra Pradesh Police Academy Junction on Vikarabad State Highway and Bongulur Junction.
