It was a dream come true for 30-odd orphans of Oasis Orphanage here on Sunday.

They were all taken to the zoo park where their joy knew no bounds on seeing the animals and sprawling lawns and the thick forest.

One of them, Shivaji sharing his joy said they never expected to go out for a picnic like this. “We will remember this forever,” he said.

The trip was facilitated by the Sulakhya Seva Samithi, a non-governmental organisation. Speaking to The Hindu , its founder Santhosh Manduva said the event was conducted with the help of a Non-Resident Indian couple Abhishek Raghav Devulapally and Shravya who wished to celebrate the first birthday of their son Anunay in a befitting manner.

They wanted their friends not to bring gifts but donate little sums so that they could afford a good meal or present a gift to the orphans.

Trainee Indian Police Service officer Bandaru Ranjith, who came to the city to visit his parents, spent some time with the orphan children.

“It is a unique experience for me.

I did not come to inspire them but leaving inspired by them and their fortitude,” he said.

The children were later taken to district science centre and also to a restaurant for sumptuous lunch, another gift of the day for them.
