Organs donated

Family members of a 22-year-old-man, declared brain dead after he met with a road accident, consented to donate his vital organs including the heart, liver and kidneys following counselling by the officials of the Jeevandan programme.

The victim Pittala Shivaprasad, hailing from Nanajipur village in Shamshabad mandal, met with a road accident at Vanastalipuram on June 29 and was declared brain dead by the doctors of Apollo DRDO Hospitals.

After his family gave the consent, kidneys and liver were being transplanted to needy patients in the same hospital.

The heart is being sent to another needy patient in the Century Hospital while the lungs are being transported to a needy patient in Chennai, according to Jeevandhan in-charge Dr. Swarnalatha here on Friday.
