Organisations condemn communal violence

Members of the Interfaith Forum (IF) condemned the incidence of violence in Kishan Bagh between two communities here on Wednesday. They stated that some vested interests seemed to have succeeded in their aim.

The IF condemned both the incidents of desecrating the religious flag by anti-social elements and also the retaliatory violence. In a press release here, it appealed to the aggrieved residents of the area and citizens of Hyderabad to observe restraint so that innocent citizens are protected and also demanded a judicial probe into the incident. It demanded that the police stop using live ammunition and use rubber pellets instead to control crowds to avoid loss of life.

Meeting held

A meeting was held between leaders of the two affected communities at the SMS Media Centre, Indira Park here on Wednesday. They appealed to members of both communities to shun violence and to maintain peace. The representatives stated that the incident where three people died in the old city was a case of a small issue which that escalated due to excessive force and use of ammunition by the police.

Khalid Rasool Khan, president, All India Muslim Sangham, said that miscreants burnt a holy flag to make the two communities fight, and that the situation had got escalated due to the excessive and strong use of force by the police. Baldev Singh, president, Gurudwara Saheb, Secunderabad, appealed for peace and said that the communities should not fight over petty matters. He also condemned the excessive use of force and use of live bullets by the police.

Probe sought

Majilis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) demanded a probe by a sitting judge of the High Court into Wednesday’s communal clash. Khayam Khan, president, MBT, alleged that the incident was a result of police inaction as officers did not reach the spot on time. He demanded that the victims’ families should be given an ex-gratia of Rs. 25 lakh and government jobs.
